| So, in case you have not heard:
Devyn and I were basically told: "If you ever talk or watch TV in your apartment after 10:30pm, or decided to close a car door in the parking lot after that time, it disturbs other tenets.” (slight exaggeration, but strangely all situations that have occurred)
Friday night a bunch of people ended up in our apartment at 11:30pm…the proverbial straw in the camel’s back. Our landlady contacted us the next day telling us we had had complaints (which I figured we would unfortunately) about Friday night, and that if we wanted out of our agreement to find a new place, we could start looking. So Saturday night Devyn and I both spent about 3 hours looking on the internet for what was out there. We decided that there were many apartment complexes out there that weren’t listed at Rent.com, Apartments.com, or whatever, so we decided to set “boundaries” of where we wanted to live. And us being the amazing roommates that we are, wanted the exact same area of town (borders: 72nd, 120th, Blondo, and Center). We then decided that the best way to find a place was to take the knowledge we gained from the internet search and simply drive around in our “box” to see what was actually out there.
Just as an aside, we found out that we were getting an OK deal where we are now, but there were much better deals out there.
Sunday: We started our search at noon (if the apartment had Sunday office hours, they were all between 12-5). Our first stop (whispering pines @ 87th and Dodge) was very promising, but after driving around a little and stopping at a few other places, we checked the area that we both agreed was our preference…90th and Center. When we arrived, we told the property manager that this was our fist day on the hunt, to which she promptly replied, “Well you are going to have one short search!” Unfortunately, the first prices she gave us were just over our price range, but we decided to take a look at the apartments anyway. As we figured, the first apartment we were shown was far out of our range. Then we were taken to the second apartment…
The first thing we saw when we walked in was the hardwood floors and new carpet…OK, if you haven’t figured it out; we just walked into out new apartment! So here is the rundown:
- Hardwood floors in kitchen, dinning room, and hallway - New carpet is all other rooms - New appliances in the kitchen - 1250 sq ft (our current apt has 837 sq ft) - Cable jacks in every room - All grounded outlets - 1 ¾ bath - Balcony - A walk-in closet big enough to be another bedroom - Big stairwell for easy move-in
But Wait, There’s MORE: If we signed a 12-month lease that day (which we did), we’d get:
- $99 security deposit - One month free - Extra $200 off
So after 45 minutes of math, general life pondering, discussion of how there was no way we could pass up this deal for this apartment, and a cup of coffee, we went back and signed the rental application and will be moving in on Dec 29th, 2006.
Summary: Devyn and I will be moving into a “wicked awesome” apartment at the end of the month. It’s in the area around 90th and Center (don’t want to post specifics to the world). If you could help move (we’ll be more organized this time I promise), that would rock. I’m hoping to host a rockin’ New Year’s Eve party in the new digs if people are OK with that.
Peace, Ryan Update: I'm going to try and get some pictures of the place in the next week...but for now:
